Maintenance

Want to replace the natural grass with artificial grass? It is time for you to get rid of the traditional ways of thinking and maintenance, especially the conception of giving a “rest” to the ground to extend the service life of the natural grass and to maintain its best sporting conditions. These ideas are out-of-date! If you have already had an artificial lawn, then congratulations to you! In the next several columns we will give you a detailed introduction of artificial turf and its maintenance.
Compared with natural grass, artificial grass is easy to maintain and money-saving in investment. A proper maintenance is designed to improve the durability and aesthetic beauty of the turf. How to make it?
Here are the key tips:
1、Always keep the surface clean
2、Proper management of pitch use.
3、Enough trash cans.
4、Mark “No Smoking” and “No food” at conspicuous places.
5、Timely repair to small damages.
6、Always obey the rules of maintenance and cleaning.

Ⅰ. Basic Skills in Maintenance
Once the artificial turf is installed, it needs at least two weeks for fibre stability. You can hold sports games during this period, but we strongly recommend you keep heavy machine and unnecessary transportation vehicles away from the pitch, and make the cleaning as fewer as possible. No cleaning under hot temperature. Meanwhile, unlike natural grass, artificial grass shall need several weeks’ using and weathering before it reaches its best in sporting performance. During this period, you need not only to consolidate the fibre, but also to fill the underlayment properly so that you can achieve a long-term and comfortable performance of the turf.

Ⅱ. Cleaning
Rain is the best cleaner. It can easily remove dust, farina or other pollutant from the air. Cleaning in time is necessary for artificial turf pitch. Ensure that the following are available:
1、 Place sufficient trash cans in case of garbage overflow.
2、 Divide special space for vehicle parking so as to reduce dust and track on the pitch.
3、 Emphasize no-smoking environment. Cigarette-like gums are recommended.

Ⅲ. Small-area Cleaning
It is quite easy to remove paper scraps, bean-nut shells and plastic by a cleaner. A good cleaner can always do a satisfactory job for you. But there are some points to be kept in mind when using a cleaner on the turf:
1. the brush of the cleaner:
The cleaner must have a synthetic fibre brush that made of PA or other alkenes materials, and the minimum length of the brush should be 2.5 inches, no metal or wires are contained.
2. The Installation of Brush
A correct using of the cleaner will not absorb the rubber granule in the turf. Therefore, the installation of the brush is very important. The specific installation of a brush depends on the type of the cleaner. The cleaner would work well when the brush is just meet the top of fibres. Never set the brush too low to get into the fibre, the infillings or the underlayer, or else it would damage the fibre and rubber granule. We do not recommend sweeping soil with a brush cleaner.
3. Temperature Limitation
Never use the cleaner when the temperature is above 33℃ in the hot summer.
4. Gas Emission of Vehicles
To avoid fire or melting of the fibre, do not park the vehicles on the pitch without stall. Whatever vehicles they are, never leave the gas emission within the pitch.
   5. Oil Overflowing
During the cleaning, prevent lubricant, grease or any other oils from spilling or dripping onto the surface of the grass, for all these liquids will cause a discoloration on the grass fibre. And never have any acid liquid as that from the batteries drop into the grass.
6. Cleaning Frequency
Clean the turf only when it is necessary. During the frequently-used time, cleaning should be carried out twice in one month.

The Removal of Stains
Most of the stains are caused as a reason of humidity. Among most stain-resist fibres, PE is widely-known for its good waterproofness. Therefore, the stains on the PE fibre can be easily removed by water or suds before they are dried or hardened. When removing solid or putty-like stains you should scrape the stains first and then dry the superfluous liquid with towel, cloth or tissues.

Ⅳ. Removing Procedures
1.Lees
Use soft cleanser to remove lees from fibres.
Typical lees

 Acid      Alcohol
Alkali       Beer
Blood        Chocolate
Coffee       Coca Cola
Coloring     matter  Pigment
Fruit        Gooey
Ice cream    Latex
Creamery     Mustard
Ketchup      Tea
Emiction     Multicolor liquid

Use brooms with hard fibre to clean the lees and then clean the subs with clean water. If necessary, use towel to dry it.

2. Oil stains
 Stains caused by kryptol, lipstick, metal polish, edible oil, scrape of rubber, shoeshine, suntan oil and oil from ball-point pens, etc., can be cleaned by chloroethylene and then be dried by adsorbable towel.
 Paint and dope should be cleaned as soon as possible. Cleanse the stains by turpentine or paint stripper and clean them with detergent or water. Use water to swash the detergent and clean it with chloroethylene. If necessary, this process can be repeated.
 Nail polish can be cleansed with acetone
Paraffine, asphalt and asphaltum can be cleansed or cleaned with chloroethylene in a sponge.
Note: paint and other petrolic solvents are flammable. Make sure there is no fire or smoking near the container of these materials when you are using them and keep good draught at the work site.
 Gum remains can be cleaned by Freon.
 Fungus or mould spots can be cleaned by Hydrogen Peroxide(1%) and then soak the fibre thoroughly with clean water.

Note: Do not use high-power water ajutage (more than 300psi) as it would damage the fibre.
